Eleanor Currie

My father was Archie Climie and my mother was Margaret Bryce both from Cumnock. I am their first daughter born in 1950.

My father bought Jack MacFarlane’s butcher shop at 100 The Castle in 1950 and the house called Castlebank above and behind the shop.  They lived there until 1976 when they retired to Ayr.  My mother was a primary teacher in the Town School until she transferred to Forehill Primary School in Ayr.

I went to the Town School then New Cumnock Junior Secondary and on to Cumnock Academy.  After this Glasgow University and Jordanhill College.  I believe I had the best of educational experiences and have many happy memories of my childhood in New Cumnock.  Sadly my father’s health was deteriorating before he left New Cumnock and although he enjoyed retirement in Ayr he died in November 1978.  My mum continued to live in Ayr but died in March 1990.

I now live in Helensburgh with my husband Bob who is from Hamilton.  We are about to celebrate our Ruby Anniversary after 40 years of marriage.
